Brothers and sisters in Christ, grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Can you believe it has already been a year that I have been with you at Christ the Servant Lutheran? Last month I also realized I just passed my 20th year of ordination. I can say that I have very much enjoyed getting to know the congregation and it has been a privilege being your pastor these past 12 months.

I am also looking forward to this next year of ministry together. The Brown Bag Bible Study in Genesis has started off this year with great attendance as we look at the Book of Genesis and study how God reveals himself to us and his plan of salvation. Understanding the Book of Genesis helps us to understand the rest of the Bible. We also answer some great questions along the way, such as, “Are there dinosaurs in the Bible?” “Where did Cain get his wife?” “Does the Bible talk about aliens?” These and many other questions we look at in this study.

October is going to be a big month for us. Our pumpkins for the Pumpkin Patch arrive the morning of October 7 and sales that will run until the end of the month. Coinciding with the Pumpkin Patch, on October 14th we are having a yard sale and bake sale in the fellowship hall. Then on October 21st we are having our first “Pumpkin Festival.” We are planning a pig-pickin’ pork BBQ dinner from 11 am – 4 pm in the fellowship hall. There will also be entertainment by The End of the Road Blue Grass Band on our stage from 11 am to 1 pm. We may have some other talent lined up for the stage as well including myself. There will be a Bouncy-House for children, face-painting and other fun activities around the pumpkin patch that day. We’re hoping this will be the start of an annual event for us that will attract not only our members, but other people in the Conway, Myrtle Beach area.

We are also planning a Christmas play this year on our stage. The Christmas play is a comedy called, “The Guiding Star,” that has a touching and meaningful ending. I am anticipating this play is going to be a fun and meaningful addition for our Advent/Christmas Season.

Don’t forget to invite someone you know to Back to Church Sunday coming up soon. These are just some of the exciting events planned over the next few months in addition to our worship life together. I hope you will join in the fellowship opportunities and the events. Over my career, I have learned that opportunities like these are what makes church life so enriching and meaningful. Jesus said once, “Give, and it will be given to you,” (Luke 6:38). I have learned that so much of life, love and happiness is like that. God’s blessings to you!
